Database design?
I am creating a database for a kennel. That's what I Petid TABLE pet (key primary), name, sex, race, age, weight, CustID (Foreign Key) Customer Table CustID Customer table (primary key), name, address, phone. Pen & Table Petid CustID (Composite Primary Key) Petid (foreign key to the Customer Table) Pen ID (foreign key to table Pet) Apparently, my relationships are wrong, because the table pen is supposed to allow more than one pet. Any help would appericated.
Are you sure what you mean, on the table that you pen ID as foreign key to table pet? Is not this the animal identifier. Similarly, you have pet id as a foreign key to the customer table, it should be custid. CustomerID As you have it on the table pet as a foreign key, why do you need to be concatenated with petid on the table pen? This is denomalising data. TABLE I animal exactly as you except I would add that penida as a foreign key to table pen (Remember how a foreign key, it must have a value in the parent table or anywhere, so if the animal is not currently in a pen, this column may be null) Customer table just like you.
