www.petfinder.com is a good place to start (just enter your area code, and it will list the shelters and rescue in your area) or if you have a phone book, look under "Pet stores" and it should list the animal shelter, which can also refer you to save groups in the region. I would also like strongly suggest to file a "missing pet report" from your local animal control / shelter.
