Sewing Machine Brother = good for heavier fabrics?
I'm considering buying a Brother CS6000i. I do not want to spend a fortune for an industrial machine, because I tend to get away from my hobby. My main desire for her: a) heavy human dog bedspread – Think canvas or upholstery fabric with a zipper b) denim pants Hemming c) occasional lighter sewing – curtains, hemming pants ordinary type, etc. cs6000i brother has good reviews. Can anyone comment on his ability to handle heavy fabrics? Several people told me to go to a store to try them … I am a newbie, so do not even know what to look for. I intend to take a class in a local sewing shop to boot. Previously I used sewing machines, shorts and curtains, but it was there are over 15 years!
Brother has become very popular in recent years because they met with Disney and Disney characters their embroidery machines. This is not a machine that I recommend for industrial-type sewing. My experience is they spend more time in the store I prefer. The Janome 6600 is a real workhorse of a machine. It is used for quilting by many big names. It is built as an anchor ship and not really hard jobs. Janome in general is a respected brand. Industrial machines are not alarmingly high. There is a Bernina 950 that was built in about 18 stitches. You should be able to get the machine, engine, painting and a complete setup for about two miles. And you have a machine that has excellent resale value in case of change of hobby in the future.
