Is it good practice / common for breeders to ship their puppies?

A friend just bought a 6 month old Boston Terrier puppy from CA. We live in VA and the puppy will be shipped to her. I wonder if this is common practice? I've never bought from a breeder before my dogs are all adopted from shelters and rescue groups. Is it safe to ship a puppy and why farmers do not think it is to present such a young puppy to a potentially stressful trip?

Oh, Grow Up & Get Real! How do you imagine it in white we get dogs clear across country …. internationally? Tie their food in a bandana on a stick, point of common sense and give em a kick?? DUH ????? I have been the shipping of dogs for decades … DOZENS …….. In & Out. Get a grip. Dogs do not understand the flight and not can not see out the window anyway!
