training puppy potty?
I have one (puppy almost 5 months) I left him out of his cage to play outside pot and often while throughout the day. I live in the Seattle area region, the rain will start soon, and that means less time for him. I wish he come into the house without being in his kennel, but he urinates on the floor. Can anyone give me advice on how to train him, so he can enjoy our home with us?
Do not pee pads. This teaches your dog that it is OK to enter the house and confuses him. Always keep in the same room with you so that you can keep an eye on him. If he wanders too much get a leash and tie him near you so you can look. Once it starts to go tell him no no no no and run outside. When will you rent him out. As he becomes more trustable you can have 2 rooms left at the same time and eventually you will not need to look at all. If you can not supervise or have disappeared put in a cage. Most dogs will not go where they sleep. It will also set your dog up for success. As he can not go home because he is in a crate or being watched and corrected then it will not have a chance to get away with and I think, if Mom is not home I can pee on the carpet! and it will take much longer to re-train the more often he goes. Do not leave the water or food out. After he eats or drinks, how long it will take for him to have to go. Then take it out when he needs to go and reward him for going outside pot. Take him out before bed and before going into his cage, and did not give him food or water 2 hours before bed or being in a cage for a few hours. Good luck!
